Student-Athlete & Staff Tour Itinerary & Costs

DAY 1 – Wednesday, September 1st

After school in the later afternoon or early evening meet your AFW Tour Rep at and depart from your international airport destined for Italy
– Flights not yet included in priced Land Package (page 4)
Dinner then sleep on board your cross-Atlantic flight arriving in Rome the next morning

DAY 2 – Thursday, September 2nd

Arrival at Rome Fiumicino International Airport
Meet your bilingual tour leader(s) who will be waiting for you at your exit gate. Load your team’s motor coach transfer to Rome city center and gain your first glimpse of the fascinating Eternal City. Depending on airline arrival and should time allow, after your tour leader orients you to the area enjoy a little free time to explore a beautiful section of Rome.
Lunch will take place in a local restaurant or at your hotel.
In the afternoon experience a guided tour of historical Rome. Enjoy impressive Navona Square, the spectacular Pantheon, Trevi’s Fountain, the Spanish Steps and much more! Rome is the city with the highest concentration of historical and architectural riches in the world. Its city center, outlined by the enclosing Aurelian Walls layering nearly three thousand years of antiquity, is an invaluable testimony to the European western world’s cultural, artistic and historical legacy. Together with the Holy See’s property beyond the confines of the Vatican State including the Basilica of St. Peter, these areas are premier sites on UNESCO’s World Heritage List.
In the later afternoon transfer to practice at a nearby local sport center
Dinner and overnight rest at your Rome area hotel

DAY 3 – Friday, September 3rd

Breakfast at your hotel
Today your team will enjoy guided visits of Vatican City including St. Peter’s Basilica, the Vatican Museums, the Sistine Chapel and separately the incomparable Roman Colisseum and if desired the adjacent Roman Forum (tickets admission are included). One tour will take place in the morning, followed by lunch (provided) with the second tour in the early afternoon.
- Roman Coliseum and Forum: Rome’s great arena is the most spectacular of the city’s ancient sights and most famously known for its gladiator battles. Inaugurated in 80AD, the Colosseum was once clad in strking white travertine and covered by a huge canvas awning held aloft by 240 masts. Inside, tiered seating encircled the arena, itself built over a now partially visible underground complex where animals were caged and stage sets prepared. This is truly one of the ‘wonders of the world’ at which one will truly be in awe.
- Vatican City: Vatican Museums, St. Peter’s Basilica and Square: Within the Vatican Museums visitors will see some of the most important masterpieces of the Renaissance – renowned paintings, classical sculptures, and other magnificent advancements of mankind. You will also witness and have explained the remarkable Sistine Chapel. Introduction and access to St. Peter’s Basilica and St. Peter’s Square is also part of the group’s experience.
In the late afternoon staff and players will tranfer to a local sports center for their final pre-game practice.
Dinner and overnight at hotel.

DAY 4 – Saturday, September 4th - GAME DAY IN ROME

Breakfast then team meeting / walk-throughs followed by time to relax or meet in small groups
Late morning departure to game site with pre-game nutrition (snack/box lunch) as coach desires
Experience the unique thrill of playing American football in front of US, Italian and European fans as well as ‘Making History’ in the first American football team played between USA teams in Rome and Italy.
Post-game award ceremony and gifts presentation
Return to hotel to shower followed by celebratory social and dinner at local restaurant in Rome. Parents and fans of your team are intended to be included.
Evening at coach’s instruction and overnight at hotel.

DAY 5 – Sunday, September 5th - MASS IN ROME AND FREE AFTERNOON OR FINAL GROUP TOUR

Morning mass in one of the churches in Rome (TBD in consultation with school)
Afterward is at program discretion. Players with staff or parents can have free time in Rome. In alternative, another group tour can be arranged (fee not included). Traveler’s choice lunch unless rearranged.
Meeting time and location for transportation back to hotel. Final celebration dinner at hotel.

DAY 6 – Monday, September 6th - (US Labor Day Holiday)– RETURN TO USA

Departure home from Fiumicino International Airport and return home to USA with benefits of a once-in-a-lifetime education and athletic experience. Be ready for school resuming Tuesday.
