He also served as the Head Football Coach and Camp Director for IFAF’s (International Federation of American Football) U19 World Team Development Camp. After serving as a quarterback coach at the 2014 camp at IMG in Florida, he was asked to take on an elevated role as Camp Director and Head Coach for the IFAF World Junior Development Team. The 2015 camp, bringing in 100 players from across the world was held for a week in Arlington, Texas and culminated with the World Team taking on a US HS Select team in AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys. Currently, Jim also serves as the coordinator for the American Football Coaches Association in establishing the speaking lineup and agenda for the Association’s national convention held annually in early January.

In his 25 years coaching in the NCAA, Jim had the good fortune of never being part of a losing season. As a head coach he led his teams to 116 victories and as a player (Augustana College) and a coach (College of Wooster & Augustana College) has been a part of over 200 collegiate victories. Associating with other winning coaches and excellent student-athletes has been a highlight to an excellent coaching career.

As a college head coach, in just five seasons at the College of Wooster Jim ranks 4th in all-time wins (37) and 1st in winning percentage (.740) for those who served over one season. He led an effort reviving a 1-9 program to a 9-1, co-championship seasons just three years later. In eleven seasons at Augustana, Jim is the 2nd winningest coach in school history and as a head coach has the 6th best overall winning percentage all-time in the rugged College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin. His Vikings football teams won three conference championships and competed in the national playoffs twice.

Jim started international travel in his teens and has always been attracted to the unique education afforded with this opportunity. Coach Barnes has also led American teams into competition in Italy, Austria, Czech Republic, Switzerland and Mexico. After serving as a clinic speaker and instructor in countries such as England, France, Denmark, Sweden and Nigeria he is well qualified to talk about how the game of American football is expanding and can be improved upon at the national level in addition to leading teams into international competition. As a long-time career educator and coach, American Football Worldwide is a vocational commitment to maximize a young person’s opportunity to learn about history and a different culture while at the same time developing relationships sharing the joys that come with the great game of American football.
